The Winery
Rick and Theresa Kaiser, both CPAs started Kaiser Family
Winery in 2013. They first made wine in 2002. Over those initial 11 years of trial and error, they learned how to craft wines that focus on freshness, consistency, and purity.
In 2004, property was purchased on the valley floor in Calistoga with scenic views of Mt St Helena and the eastern cascade of Napa Valley. In 2005, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Sauvignon Blanc vines were planted. The farm is called Buoni Amici Vineyard. Buoni amici means good friends in Italian.
Calistoga became an AVA in 2012 because of its unique characteristics. A typical day in the growing season starts with warmth and sun, followed by an afternoon breeze, and then the natural air conditioning provided by the fog coming over the Mayacamas Mountains.
All attempts are made to work with what Mother Nature has to offer and make decisions in the vineyard so that the grapes fully mature and there is the proper balance between sugar and ph levels. No two years are the same.
When fully ripe, our fruit is handpicked and hand sorted. We gently destem and crush the grapes and ferment in open bin fermenters. Our yeast selection is made based on our experience with the varietal and the growing season. There is no step in the process that does not have our personal attention to detail.
The flagship wines are Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Other wines are produced when the right opportunity develops. As such, quality Zinfandel fruit was made available in 2013 and then some Sangiovese grapes in 2014. There always will be some Sauvignon Blanc to get you to the dinner table and a glass of port wine (made with Petite Sirah) for after dinner.
Our wines can be found at
Johnny’s Sports Bar & Bricco Osteria in Calistoga.
